That's my kid...

So Madylinn was playing around the house Wednesday night.
It was like any other week night.
Mady was playing with her toys, Em was watching her and laughing, Frank and I were playing with both girls and semi-watching tv at the same time.
Mady got up and started running around the house doing laps (her new favorite thing to do, since the new house is a big circle downstairs).
Frank went into the kitchen for a drink, and that's when i heard it.
THUNK!
Low and behold, Mady was running through the kitchen, and like usual, she was looking back over her shoulder at what i can only imagine was Frank chasing her, and SMACK, right into the wall.
She had a huge lump form on the side of her forehead right away.
It even started turning black and blue right away.
We got her her Elmo ice pack, and Frank held it on her head for a while until it got warm.
She then insisted on having her teddy bear ice pack and holding it on herself.
She was a trooper though, i'll give her credit.
Only a few tears.
But not 30min later, what was she doing again?!
Running loops around the downstairs.
That's my kid!!

Could i be crazy...

So i packed up the girls today and we went to the mall.
We made a few stops for things we needed...you know, birthday presents, odds and ends.
We ended up at Target so i could get Mady her birthday present from Frank and I.
Yes, we finally decided to get her the Leap Pad, better known as the IPad for kids.
They had one there to look at, but it was all but bolted down to the shelf, so you could pick it up and hold it or anything.
And it didn't let you test out any of the apps, it just played the same "commercial" that the website plays.
Cheap.
But, i bought it anyway.
It comes with 4 apps, and it has a built in camera and video recorder.
Mady will like the camera part, she is always trying to take peoples pictures.
Now i just have to make sure she isn't taking random people pictures while we're out.
I think she'll be good with the 4 apps it comes with, at least until she gets the hang of it.
We can put a few games on her christmas list.
The good thing is, it's compatable with the Leapster Explorer, which has some really cute games, and they are a bit cheaper.
As i was packing the car up to go home, i thought to myself...
Am i crazy?!
Did i just buy my daughter a video game or a learning tool (hopefully both i guess)?!
Did i just buy her a kiddie IPad, and we still have an old desktop computer?!
Why cant i ever just get her something small and reasonably priced?!
Am i totally out of my mind?!?!

A really real list...

I got this in an email from my awesome, funny Aunt Marian.
I couldn't find it to be any truer!!
Had to share it with everyone, it made me laugh out loud...
until i realized that i could relate to each and every thing on that list.

Adult Truths:
1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die. (Amen sister, amen)

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong. (Now this one, this has never happened to me...haha)

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger. (I tell Mady this almost every day)

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font. (I know quite a few people that deserve that one)

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet? (I still can't figure it out)

6. Was learning cursive really necessary? (I only cursive my name on checks, everything else is print)

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood. (Seriously)

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died. (Some of them would be quite entertaining)

9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired. (Double agree)

10. Bad decisions make good stories. (Quite a few years later though)

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day. (For example, i'm typing this now AT WORK)

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again. (Still haven't bought more than a few blue rays)

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to. (I know right, and sometimes i'm afraid to hit save because i'm afraid it will save it bloank because i didn't actually make any changes)

14. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call. (Call ID is a blessing)

15. I think the freezer deserves a light as well. (How else can i find the ice cream)

16. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay. (Or bud light, or Yuengling, or a few shots for that matter)

17. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option. (Lock your doors people)

18. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger. (Especially during late night television)

19. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said? (I think i've gotten to about 4 before i just agree...sometimes agreeing is worse though)

20. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. (Don't you just hate that...and they are always followed by about 10 more people who think they can do the same thing!)

21. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever. (Try telling this to my husband...jeans don't need to be washed EVERY TIME you wear them!)

22. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.
(Sometimes i look down the 3rd time and realize i don't even have my watch on)

23. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time. (Right here, that's me!!)

24. The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important. (Some still don't realize it)

Sisterly love...

I really think i lucked out.
Madylinn and Emmerson really do love each other.
And no, i don't just say that, i really believe it.
Em will follow Mady around the room, just staring at her, waiting for her to look at her so she can laugh and giggle.
Mady will try her hardest to not look at Em, then spin quick and look at her so she laughs.
Mady does just about anything she can to make Em laugh, she thinks it's the best thing.
I'm pretty sure Em thinks it's the best too.
And i just feel really blessed when i look at them together.
I know they are going to be the best of friends as they grow up together.
Em is really lucky to have such a smart, sweet, amazing sister like Mady.
Mady is lucky to have an adorable, loving shadow, i mean sister, like Em.

The strange places kids sleep...

Mady is one of those kids,
when she's tired she could sleep being held upside down by her ankles.
But for some reason,
once or twice a week,
i wake up to find her sleeping in the hallway.
It's not that she's afraid to come into our room and wake me up,
trust me, she's done that more times than i can count.
For some reason she likes the hallway.
There is a little bump back by the linen closet, and she just brings her blanket out there and cozies up and falls back asleep.
At first it was cute, even a bit funny.
Now i'm getting a bit worried.
It's just so...odd!
Maybe we need to get a brighter night light for her room.
Maybe i'm just worrying for nothing.
After all, she is sleeping, it's just not in her own bed.
I guess things could be worse,
she could be sleepwalking with her garbage can again, lol.

Just showin a little love...

Too cute to not share...

So one of my friends in facebook land had this link on their page.
It was really cute.
And of course, since we have 2 girls, i thought it would be very appropriate to copy and post this on my blog.
I hope you all enjoy it as much as i did.
And i hope the guy or guys in your life can benefit from at least one of these rules...
I'm sure mine will.

I know there are tons and tons of people that got it worse than us.
God bless them and keep them safe.
Here is just some of what we got hit with at our house.

Enough already...

So it's been raining since Sunday here,
and we've had enough!!
Last night, the rain finally topped the limit and our basement started flooding.
We should be used to it by now,
the basement has flooded more times than i can count since we moved here.
I wish i would have known this before we moved in here.
The previous owner said the basement would "get some water" during heavy rains.
Since when does "some water" mean 3 feet?!
On what freakin planet?!
We had to go out and get a pump to get the water out.
But since it's been raining since Sunday (and not just raining, but pouring)
the pump isn't making any progress...
it's just barely keeping up with the rain thats coming in.
At least it's doing that i guess.
I'm just hoping the rain stops soon and we can get the rain out quick so i can see what kind of damage i have in the basement.
All our towels, decorations, extra toys, my extra clothes...all in the basement...all underwater or floating right now.
It's so bad that the school even closed early for flooding...
even our daycare closed early due to flooding!
Why can't we send some of this rain down to Texas where they need it?!
And the great news is, it isnt' supposed to stop until Tuesday!!
I'll be building my ark if you need me before then.

Half way to mommy-stressville...

Look who's sitting on her own now!
She's still a bit wobbly, but it's started!!
Before you know it, she will be crawling, and mommy will be going insane on a daily basis!
